Our camp
spot on Kluane Lake last night turned out nice. But for some reason I’m having
trouble going to sleep. I got up twice
last night to check for the Northern Lights.
A lot of clouds moved in. It’s
getting darker earlier now and the darkness is darker. Meaning it never really got dark when we
first arrived in Alaska in June, only twilight for a few hours before the sun
came up again. The wind picked up during
the night and rocked the rv pretty good at times. We woke to a light sprinkle and decided to
push on. We drove probably 250 miles
today and are staying about 20 miles short of Teslin at an old gravel airstrip
that’s tucked back into the woods a little ways, maybe .2 of a mile. I don’t think the airstrip is in service
anymore but we were able to park a good ways away from it just in case. Some, maybe all of these little jewels we
find have been due to the Milepost. Many
are not signed at the road. The Milepost gives you blow by blow what to expect
at every mile marker, but only if there is actually something to write
about. Such as a rest area, pull out,
gravel road down to a lake, etc. That’s
what we like to check out, those gravel roads that lead down to a lake or out
of service airstrips. We know our
boondocking days are coming to an end as we head further south. Soon it will be too hot to sleep without air
conditioning so we’re taking advantage of it while we can.
