We arrived
in Talkeetna by noon and check into the Talkeetna Camper Park. We need full hook ups so we can dump, refill
and charge the batteries. They only have
5 FHU sites and only 1 available for 1 night.
Good enough. We got set up and
walked the little town of Talkeetna. It’s
a nice quaint little community. The
buildings all look pretty old, gift shops, café’s and lots of flight companies
here. You can charter a plane to fly you
over Mt. McKinley (Denali). Some even
land on glaciers and let you walk around.
This is the gathering place for climbers; lots of folks want to reach
the summit of Mt. McKinley. We walked
through the Talkeetna cemetery. They have a nice memorial to all the climbers
that have lost their lives. I would
probably stay another day but they don’t have much in the way of RV camping
here so we’ll move on up the highway to Denali State Park. They have one park I want to stay at that’s
on/near a lake that sounds like it has ambiance and some hiking trails. It’s only 50 miles or so from here. We’ll be living off grid while there then go
on up to Denali National Park.
